Mazda recently expanded their recall of vehicles with Takata airbags which may potentially increase the risk of injury to occupants in the event of an accident, BBC News reported on December 5.
Mazda’s decision to broaden their recall comes after Takata reportedly refused to comply with federal safety regulators’ request to expand their recall nationwide. Mazada is now recalling vehicles in Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Saipan, American Samoa, and Guam. People are at risk of serious injuries from vehicles with Takata airbags due to metal shrapnel that may be expelled when the airbags are deployed. At least five deaths have been linked to the potentially dangerous Takata airbags.
