The government has proposed a new law that is aimed to prevent truck and bus rollovers from occurring by making it a law for manufacturers to equip trucks and buses with a computer-controlled braking systems.
Officials with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration have stated that all new trucks and buses would have to be equipped with the new technology.
This electronic system would be able to sense when a driver may lose control and will be able to automatically apply the brakes to the individual needs of the vehicle in order to keep it stable on the road and avoid a rollover.
Research shows that this new technology may be able to prevent nearly 56 percent of all rollover accidents each year. Rollover accidents are the deadliest type of car crashes that can occur. This new rollover stability control may be able to prevent up to 2,329 crashes each year, which would eliminate up to 858 injuries.
